Right at the heart of the extraordinary contemporary gallery Hauser & Wirth Somerset, ‘the Roth’ as it is known by its many fans includes a bar, a restaurant housed in the airy converted cowshed and a covered Mediterranean-vibe orangery, complete with orange trees. The installation bar created from found objects by Björn and Oddhur Roth in tribute to their artist father, Dieter, creates a signature link between high quality, locally-sourced food and drink and contemporary art of the highest quality. Here you can refresh body and spirit in equal measure, in a relaxed, everyone-welcome atmosphere.

Food-to-fork is taken seriously with much of the produce sourced from Durslade Farm’s own rare breed flocks and herds, and herbs and vegetables grown on-site. There’s a constantly changing seasonal menu that in summer includes Lyme Bay scallops and spit-roast chicken as well as perennial favourites like the best Wagyu burger in the west country. The extensive cocktail menu holds many delights and if you’re feeling festive try the farm’s very own Maid of Bruton sparkling rosé, harvested from Durslade Farm’s vineyard a mile down the road.

Open Tues to Sunday, from 10 am in the morning for coffee and breakfast to late, the Roth Bar & Grill’s super-friendly staff play host to a bustling crowd of families, serious art-goers, locals and visitors. An inventive calendar of chef pop-ups, workshops and events is always a sell-out. But for us, it’s the Roth’s special atmosphere, invigorated by its contemporary, creative environment married to an authentic passion for cooking local ingredients with care and attention that make this unique.
