We say Wincanton Racecourse is the best place in the West Country to watch jump racing –  where horses leap over hurdles rather than gallop down a flat track – and a sure bet for a fabulous day out for knowledgeable racegoers and first timers alike.

The Racecourse, which is part of the Jockey Club,  hosts the prestigious Badger Beers Chase Day on Saturday 11 November. Day Two of the West Country Weekend (the other being held in Exeter Racecourse), it’s one of the most competitive races of the season. Last year, it was won by the famous Frodon (trained by Nicholls), ridden by top female jockey Bryony Frost.

As well as the quality action on the track, there’s plenty going on away from it. Thanks to long-term partners Hall & Woodhouse (brewers of Badger Beer), the Racecourse will be hosting its first beer festival, where you’ll be able to taste the best the West Country has to offer. Dorset-based Loose Connections will be taking to the stage with all the classics after the racing’s over, so everyone’s day ends on a winner.

Boxing Day at Wincanton is somewhat of a tradition for local friends and families. A day of (watching other people) taking part in a thrilling sport is a great way to blow away the cobwebs after that turkey dinner.

One of Wincanton’s biggest fixtures of the year is the Kingwell Hurdle on Sat 17 February 2024. An important trial for the following month’s Unibet Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival,  the atmosphere will be buzzing!
